Backcountry Fly-Fishing Experience

Our backcountry trips are designed for experienced fly-fishers/fishers that are looking to really get their hands dirty in adventure. If you don’t like be around others while fishing then these more remote backcountry trips are perfect for you. These trips are a lot more demanding with both physicality and experience; you must be physically able to walk, hike, swim, paddle hard and long, and carry up to 40-50lbs and it is best if you are an experienced caster. Very eager beginners are also welcome to give these trips a try.

These trips are definitely not for the faint of heart. Bugs can be bad (certain times of the year and certain places),  inclement weather can roll in in minutes, the sun can be intense, the wind can pick up creating chop in the water and hard paddling, and really anything can happen when out in the wilderness. Sometimes you just have to dig deep and never give up, for quitting is not an option. As much as these trips can be tough they are incredibly rewarding and exciting. They are filled with beauty, wildlife and adventure. These backcountry trips are what we absolutely love to do.

Deposits and Policies

Swooning Loon is proud to offer guided trips on our local waters here in the Chippewa National Forest and beyond. When on a Home Waters trip it is critical to be prepared both with equipment and education. You are expected to follow directions, wear all necessary safety gear, participate with equipment transportation and setup (Swooning Loon will be doing more of the heavy lifting). We do supply most of the equipment for these adventures but person items such as; rain gear, sunglasses, hats, and all other personal clothing and sun protection, is not supplied. We do have life jackets but if you are wanting a perfect fitting PFD then we highly suggest bringing or purchasing your own. All participation in trips offered by Sand Lake Lodge or Swooning Loon Fly-Fishing are at your own risk.

Deposits:

  • For all guide trips we require a 50% deposit at time of booking.
  • Any and all cancellations/reschedule must be made at least 30 days prior to scheduled date. If within the 30 days we cannot reschedule or cancel your trip.

We realize that emergencies do happen and please know that we will make every effort to re-book your spot, but if we can’t, we must uphold this policy.
  • We do pride ourselves on the honesty and professionalism of our guides and services…therefore, it does not behoove us to take you adventuring when conditions are not right. Your safety is of great importance to us and at time the weather is just agreeable for our trips
